Obituary for Joseph R Mailloux

Joseph Real Mailloux, 86 of Burlington passed away peacefully with his wife of 59 years by his side. He was lovingly being cared for by the staff of Our Lady of Providence with assistance from Hospice.

Joe was born in Revere, Massachusetts to Leodore and Laurette Mailloux. He attended St. Mary's High School in Lynn, Massachusetts and graduated from Bridgewater State College in 1954 with a BS in education. He joined the Air Force in 1955 during the Korean War. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, earning a MPH in 1962. After that he came to Burlington where he worked at the Mary Fletcher Hospital, now the University of Vermont Medical Center for 40 Years. He retired from the USAFReserves, in 1992 as Lieutenant Colonel. In 1993 he received the New England Healthcare Assembly Gold Medal Award for excellence in his field. In retirement he enjoyed attending grandchildren's sports events and activities, traveling, cruising and volunteering at UVMC.

He is survived by 4 children, Mary Brown and husband Jeffrey of West Bolton, John and wife Robina of Winooski, Sally Seay and husband Joseph of Marlborough, Massachusetts, and Melanie and husband Daniel Mielnicki of Shorewood, Wisconsin. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Renee Brown, Kaila Mailloux, Connor O' Brien, Jace Mailloux, Colin O'Brien, Ethan Brown, Abigail Mielnicki, Catherine Seay, Daniel and Harrison Mielnicki. He is also survived by his sister Geraldine Van Horn of Surprise, Arizona.

Special thanks to the staff and residents of OLOP for the kind and compassionate care he received, he felt loved and special there. Thanks also to good friends Jared Larrow and Larry Limoge who were supportive in so many ways, and to Dr. Dennis Beatty for his wonderful care over the last many years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on October 11, 10:00 AM, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Burlington.
