Obituary for Elaine Boyajian (Delano)

Elaine (Delano) Boyajian of Essex Junction passed away July 7 at the University of Vermont Medical Center of pneumonia complications. Elaine was born in Morrisville, Vermont January 23, 1937, the daughter of Howard and Lillian (Campbell) Delano.

Elaine graduated from Peoples Academy, class of 1955. She married Stephen Boyajian on December 15, 1956. They celebrated 65 years of marriage having raised five children: Diane (Thomas) Leavitt, Stephen Boyajian, Jr., Donna (John) Turnbaugh, David Boyajian, and Michael Boyajian.

In her early years following high school, Elaine worked at W.T. Grant in Burlington and Hayes Advertising. From 1975 to 2000, she had a career in production with IBM. Like her sister Barbara, Elaine developed a love for working with ceramics and opened a shop in her longtime family home on Chase Street in Burlington. She poured herself into sewing, knitting, crochet, and landscape painting, creating treasures for family, friends, and charities over the years. Elaine shared her gift for arts and crafts with youth as a Cub Scout den leader.

In addition to her husband and children, Elaine leaves five grandsons: Brent Boyajian, Christopher (Jennifer) Boyajian, Joshuah Boyajian, Joseph (Jessie) Leavitt, and John Leavitt. She also leaves great granddaughter Blakelyn Ann Claflin, five nephews, one niece, and sisters-in-law Lucille Boyajian and Jean Boyajian. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, brother Wallace Delano, and sister Barbara Tomlinson.

LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski has provided services. Elaine will be memorialized in a family graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington this summer. Condolences may be addressed to 36 Hillside Circle, Essex Junction, VT 05452.
