Leo “Paul” Couture of Essex Junction Vt. died on 12/16/2022. Paul was born on June 18 1935 in Enosburg, Vt. He graduated from Winooski High School and Champlain College. He married his best friend, Marie “Lucille” Parrot on May 6, 1961.
He enlisted into the Air Force in 1956 and retired after 21 years of service. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in several states as well as France, two tours in Germany and Tripoli. He was the Air Force Representative in Burlington, Vt. for seven years prior to his retirement. While he was stationed in Germany, he and his family traveled throughout Europe.
Paul is survived by his wife of 61 years and his son Kraig Couture of California and his former daughter-in-law Kathleen (Kevin) Couture of Hinesburg Vt. He is also survived by his in-laws Stephen Luchini and his wife Marilyn, Arnold and Charlotte Parot, Jerry and Debbie Parot, Danny and Laurie Parot, Dahl and Colleen Curry, Ed & Patty Noory, sister-in-law Florence (Donald) Couture, and numerous nephews and nieces as well as great-nephew and nieces. He was predeceased by his son Kevin as well as his parents, Elphege and Delia Couture, and by his six brothers; Lionel, Roland, Phillip, Donald, Lucien (Richard) and Raymond (Joe) and his three sisters, Theresa Monty, and Cecile Ruel and Eva Bouchard.
Paul’s main interest was his family and he was very involved in his sons (youth) activities such as president of the Essex Youth Football and Basketball leagues. He also served his community by being on the Essex Community High School board for six years. Leo (Paul) was employed with the Immigration and Naturalization Service for over 21 years, after his retirement from the Air Force. He held several other jobs upon retirement. After retirement, Paul enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach and out west every year with his wife, Lucille. Paul especially enjoyed the friendship of his Pact and Carrat Bakery friends. He was a life time member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW), and the American Legion.
Services will be held at a later date in the spring.
