Many hearts were broken on March 24, 2023, when Linda Hedelund (Farnsworth) passed away at McClure Miller Respite House, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Linda made this world a better place when she was born on June 7, 1950, in Burlington, Vermont. Linda defied the odds and graduated from both Essex High School and achieved a hard earned associate's degree from Champlain College.

Linda set the world on fire every time she put her hands to making one of her stunning creations. A true artist with many mediums, her art has become a much-loved treasure.

Linda is a 16th-generation Vermonter who is both traditional and forward-thinking. All who love Linda jealously watch her take her gifts with her to the next life.

It would seem Linda led an ordinary life to the casual onlooker, though at times her sharp instincts seemed like magic. No one would ever suspect that Linda saved lives, but she did. She made the hard choices most of us never have to consider and overcame unfathomable odds in her life. She has never asked for thanks, or recognition or would even consider it noteworthy. She has been a hero to many, perhaps without her even knowing. Linda took on this world with two hands, beating cancer at age 40, while simultaneously completing college on the Dean’s list. Her challenges were many but Linda was always victorious.

Linda’s “Can-Do” attitude, quick wit, fabulous sense of humor, lateral thinking, and even her “word of the day” changed lives and will be missed. Her absence will be felt through generations of our family and she will never be forgotten. Everyone will hear the tales and glean the wisdom of the life she lived and the achievements she made.

Linda is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, life companion, and friend David Hedelund. She is further survived by her brother Myron "Butch" Farnsworth and his wife Marie, and her three sisters Paula Parrott and her husband Ralf Vanzile, Melissa Kirkham and her husband Richard, and Bonnie Prim and her husband Steve. Linda created a lasting example of strength, courage, and resourcefulness. Resilience, adaptability, and finding joy in the small things were lessons she passed on to her three surviving children Peggy Plumley and her husband Walter, Wayne Charland, and Christine Balmer, and her husband Marc Stiff. These gifts are then in turn passed onto her surviving grandchildren Christopher Mount and his wife Alexandra, Luke Plumley, Joshua Racine, Caitlyn Racine, Braeden Farnsworth, and Khalid Alam.

In years to come her great-grandchildren Arthur Mount and Winnifred Mount will have the fortune of inheriting these gifts.

Linda always said, “I will not age gracefully, I’m going kicking and screaming”. And she kept her word, she fought a second round of very aggressive cancer and chose how she would end this battle that could not be won, her absence will be deeply felt by all.

Those who are left behind will never stop naming the turkey, and will remind those who need to hear it “No pie for you”. If she had ever taken your hand and squeezed it twice, it was her silent way of saying "I love you". You will be with us all in the stories we tell and the lessons we teach our children. She will be with us in our dreams, on the smell of lilacs, in the purr of her beautiful cat, Rosie and in the faces of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will never forget you and your tales of your impact on this world will never go untold.
