Obituary for Richard Niquette

Richard R. Niquette of Jonesville, VT passed away peacefully at home on December 1st surrounded by loved ones. Rick battled pancreatic cancer with strength and courage. Rick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna, and their 5 children: Christopher (Heather), Michael (Jennifer), Heather (Brian), Benjamin (Megen) and Richard (Tessa); siblings: Deborah, Lori (Dan) and Cynthia (Robert); father, Raymond; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara.

Rick was born on June 13th, 1951 to Raymond and Barbara Niquette of Winooski, VT. After graduating from Rice Memorial High School in 1969, Rick went on to study at The University of Vermont. After college, Rick worked for IBM then left to work with Green Mountain Power where he stayed for 37 years, until he retired when he was 56.

Rick thoroughly enjoyed annual hunting trips out of state accompanied by his youngest son, Richard. He and Donna were passionate about traveling together; visiting various parts of the U.S., attending concerts, staying at casinos, and relaxing on sunny beaches. Rick was a champion water skier in his early years and an avid fisherman. After moving to Jonesville in 1978, Rick worked tirelessly restoring his own home and multiple rental properties.

A special thanks to Dr. Paul Unger and his team at Champlain Valley Hematology Oncology in Colchester, VT who cared for Rick after his diagnosis.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Richmond, VT on Tuesday, December 6th at 2pm with a reception to follow in the church hall. There will be no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Rick’s kind and generous spirit will continue to inspire all the lives he touched.
