Obituary for Ryan Patrick Mills

Son of James and Shelby(Irwin) Mills and brother to Collin, passed Wednesday November 3rd. Ryan was born in Burlington, VT and grew up in Essex, VT. From and early age Ryan was a funny guy, class clown and mischievous. He was a ball of energy that lit up the room and could never be ignored. He could put a smile on anyone’s face, make them laugh, and make everyone feel welcome. Ryan was a good listener and always put family and friends first, before himself.

Ryan’s main love was music, discovering the rock music his parents grew up with, when he was in 8th grade. He and several of friends came together to create the band “Pure Nectar”, and later several of his same band mates formed Townshend 'Townsend" Revenue. He wrote music and lyrics and had a wonderful singing voice. Ryan was also an accomplished guitarist.

Ryan was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, which turned into a lifetime love for the outdoors. He loved to hike the Green Mountains and the high peaks of the Adirondacks with his friends.

Ryan was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy while in grade school. He played soccer through Essex Recreation Department and Essex United Soccer Club. He also played football and ran track at Essex High School.

After High School Ryan worked at several different Businesses, “Wings Over”, “Pettinelli & Associates”, and "Darn Tough/Cabot Hosiery Mills". Whatever job he did he, he gave 110%.

Ryan is predeceased by his paternal Grandfather James “Pop” Mills, of Catskill, NY. Ryan is survived by his parents James and Shelby Mills and brother Collin, his paternal Grandmother Gloria “Gigi” Mills of Catskill, NY and his Maternal Grandparents Royce “Papa” and Marlene “Grammy” Irwin of South Burlington, VT, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and numerous friends.

Ryan was an Organ and Tissue donor, who’s generous gift gave life to and improved life for many others. Our family would like to thank all the many Nurses, Doctors, and medical staff in the ICU, as well as his Organ Donor coordinators at UVM Medical Center.

There will be calling hours at LaVigne Funeral home on Wednesday November 10th from 4p to 7p in Winooski, VT. Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 11th, 10am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Essex Center, VT. All are welcome.
