Obituary for Susan Mary Brocksmith

On Monday, March 6th, 2023, another angel received their wings with the passing of Susan Mary Brocksmith of Winooski, VT. Sue was born the 3rd oldest of 14 children on November 16th, 1946 to Yvonne and Leo Bissonnette and was raised on Hall street in the same town that she had passed.

Sue lived to be 76 years old. She is survived by her children: Billy, Jason, and Nevaeh, her cat; her brothers and sisters: Gerry Myers, Dan & Rosann Bissonnette, Linda Belisle, Yvette & Gerry Gilligan, Nancy & Bruce Kelley, David & Darlene Bissonnette, Elaine Bissonnette, Karen & Bob Whitten, Lynn Bissonnette, Lisa & Mark, LaFountain, Peter Bissonnette & Bridget Gracey, Louise & Russell Daigle and many nieces & nephews. She is also remembered by her chosen family: Darlene Austin, Carol Redmond, Gloria Ducharme and many many friends and others whose hearts she has touched. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Brocksmith, her parents, her sister Leola Myers, her brother Gary Bissonnette, brother in-law Armand Belisle, and sister-in-law Wendy Bissonnette.

To know Sue is to know the unconditional love, passion, and dedication that she had for her given family, her chosen family and friends, her country, her fellow human, and God. Her resolve to accomplish what she set her mind to was arguably unparalleled. Be it eating pounds and pounds of bananas in order to meet the weight requirement to join the army at 18 or to stay up overnight to finish painting piece after piece of ceramics to give to her family, if Sue set her mind to it, you could guarantee that it would be accomplished. She was known for many things. She was a proud veteran, a loving and sensitive sister, an unconditionally devoted wife, an amazing mother of two, an unyieldingly caring friend, a lover and caretaker of animals, a wonderful artist, and a lover of games. Her generosity knows no bounds. She always wanted to make you feel at home, and she would never let you go wanting if she could help it.

There will be a memorial service held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Saturday, March 11th at 1pm. The address is 3 Peter St. Winooski VT. 05404. We are holding a Celebration of Life afterwards at the RVA (Regular Veterans Association) right down the road from the church on Weaver St. directly after the service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be offered in her name to the following places:
