Obituary for Theresa F. Gonyon (Decarreau)
Theresa (Decarreau) Gonyon, 95, a longtime resident of Winooski, left this life on August 3rd to rejoin the love of her life, Harold Gonyon.
Theresa “Ted” was born in Winooski, May 29, 1927, one of eleven children to Florence Provost Decarreau and Francis Decarreau. From her early years, Theresa was a second mother to her many brothers and sisters. She worked at the Winooski Screen Shop before marrying Harold “Bozo” Gonyon. While raising three sons in the ‘50’s, Theresa worked alongside her husband, refurbishing and building homes until his unexpected death in 1981. Always independent and strong willed, Theresa continued to support herself and maintain her Winooski home through employment at several local retailers. Theresa was also an accomplished cook and baker, known for her banana bread, date filled cookies and French-Canadian meat pies which she shared freely with her friends and extended family.
Theresa is survived by three sons, David Gonyon (Joyce), John Gonyon, and Rick Gonyon (Marianne), two sisters, Barbara Soddy and Pauline “Pounie” Decarreau (Carol), in addition to sister-in-law Sister Jeanne Marie Gonyon, several caring friends, Michelle Paquette, Ann McGonigle and Jennifer Honeywood, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold "Bozo" Gonyon, by her sister, Nancy Krupp, her brothers-in-law, Jim Soddy, and Pat Krupp, and her seven brothers: Robert, Norman, Omer, Roland, Francis Jr., Clayton "Honey," and Earl "Butch."
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on August 11th at 11:00 am, St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 3 St Peter St, Winooski, with prayers of committal and interment to follow at the Gonyon gravesite, St Francis Xavier Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of A Wing of Birchwood Terrace for their compassionate care.
