Obituary for Theresa Wixson

Theresa A. Wixson, 62, of Burlington, VT, died peacefully in her sleep following a brief illness of cancer. Terry leaves behind her two most precious sons, Shane P. Wixson- McLaughlin, and Keegan J. Wixson-McLaughlin. Terry also leaves behind her father and step-mother Bill and Coreen Wixson of Huntington, VT; two brothers Billy Wixson (wife Tara) of Bennington and Ricky Wixson (wife Jeanie) of Barre; her two Aunts Jane Jacoby of NY and Linda Howard (husband Robert) of FL., and many nieces and nephews.

Theresa A. Wixson born in Poughkeepsie, NY to Sanford " Bill " and Leila (Watts) Wixson, Terry later moved to VT where she graduated Mt. Mansfield Union High School in 1978. During her high school years there, she volunteered as the manager of the boys ice hockey team. She began an early career at the former Burlington Convalescent Center of Burlington as a nurse’s aid. She worked her way up the proverbial ladder to the ward secretary, and then to the purchasing director and staffing coordinator. Terry began a second career at the Price Chopper now known as a Market 32 on Shelburne for the last 26 years in a variety of positions. She most loved working as the DSD receiver and had special colleagues there.

When not working or keeping up with “her boys,” Terry could be found hanging out with her lifelong partner, Timothy McLaughlin of South Burlington, his relatives, and with many nieces and nephews. Terry and Tim were often found cheering along the sidelines of South Burlington’s little league, youth football, and high school football games. Terry was inseparable with “her sister” Sheila McLaughlin Gorski and the two were often found cruising together, exploring beaches alongside the oceans together, camping with the gang, or getting rest and recuperation at Judith Cormier (another “sister's'') Hammond House overlooking Lake Carmi.

Prior to her death, Terry left all of us a message. “Remember me with smiles and laughter. That’s the way I’ll remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, Then don’t remember me at all.”

A celebration of Terry’s life will take place Saturday, December 17, at the Lavigne Funeral Home in Winooski, VT from 1-4pm. We will remember with smiles and laughter.

Terry’s family is thankful to team at Bayada nurses and to the Market 32 general manager: Catherine A. and Cathy.
